MASTERS Motorcycle Hillclimber Passes Away

September 28, 2022

After a great Vollwerth’s Meats – Pat’s Motorsports – Wildlife Refuge Cabins Motorcycle Hillclimb, presented by M & M Powersports and Timberline Sports, this past Saturday (Sept 24h) at Whealkate Bluff in South Range, MI., the MASTERS has heard that one of our Motorcycle Hillclimbers, Jesse Perry, had passed away. Our official at the top of the Hill, Gage Havela, and one of our Mod King of the Hill qualifiers, Brad Havela, were some of Jesse’s best friends.

Jesse and Gage played Football together at Westwood High School. Jesse loved riding his Motorcycle and enjoyed competing at the MASTERS Racing Circuit Hillclimbs.

Sandy and I were extremely concerned that our MASTERS may have played a part in the death of Jesse. It has been my (Skip Schulz) contention from the very first race in Dec of 1981 at the Ironwood Olympus Ice Oval Snowmobile Race to this past Saturday, that if anything I am involved in leads to a racer, official, or crew member being seriously injured or killed, I would simply walk away from ANY form of racing.

After a lot of communication with Jesse’s closest friends, each stated that Jesse would want the MASTERS Racing Circuit to continue on.

It is so devastating to come home from Camping after the Hillclimb to today to get this news. We just loved having Jesse race with us! He took a 5th in the 450-4 Stroke Mod Class by going an amazing 468 Feet up Whealkate Bluff. He went even further in the 500 & Up-4 Stroke Mod Class, where Jesse went up 522 feet! To make it even FURTHER, Jesse went 537 Feet in the Open 4 Stoke Class. His best finish was a competitive 5th place.

ALL of us were so proud of Jesse Perry! We will really miss him, and pray to God to be his biggest fan when he takes on the biggest, highest, and most challenging clouds to climb.

Rest in peace my friend!

Sincerely,

Skip and Sandy Schulz
MASTERS Racing Circuit Owners
